Powering Sustainable Green Solutions in India

In a move to combat climate change, India had pledged its commitment to curbing rising carbon levels at the 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP21). Part of this effort is a nationwide drive to double India’s wind power capacity and increase its solar power capabilities by almost five-fold by 2022.

These developments have reaffirmed Sembcorp’s commitment to providing the country with sustainable green energy solutions.

In 2015, Sembcorp acquired a majority stake in one of India’s leading renewable energy firms, since renamed Sembcorp Green Infra. It has established itself as a reliable renewable energy provider and is present across seven states in India.

The acquisition has elevated our status as a leading renewable energy player in India and allows us to build on the immense opportunities in the renewable energy sector in the country. With a strong pipeline of projects, the renewable energy business presents a new engine for growth for the Group.

Sembcorp Green Infra was awarded a combined capacity of 800 megawatts in India’s national wind power tenders held in 2017 and February 2018, reflecting the strength of its capabilities.

With that, we now have over 1,700 megawatts of wind and solar power assets in operation and under development located in the renewable resource-rich southern, western and central regions of India.

In August 2017, Sembcorp entered into an agreement to acquire IDFC Private Equity Fund III’s remaining stake in Sembcorp Green Infra.

To bring about greater synergy to Sembcorp’s operation in the growing Indian market, Sembcorp has also reorganised its Indian energy assets and have consolidated the businesses into a single corporate entity - Sembcorp Energy India Limited.
