At around 5.30 am (Bintan time) this morning, the Indonesian police and military forces mounted a joint operation to disperse the demonstrators who gathered at Post 1, the back gate of the Bintan Beach International Resort (BBIR).

The Bintan Beach International Resort (BBIR) continues to receive holiday makers today. The number of guests arriving at the resort today stood at 254 against 264 yesterday. This is lower than the usual 580 visitor count on a weekday.

At 10.15 pm on January 19, 2000, all 85 protesters who had remained in the powerhouse at Bintan Industrial Estate (BIE) left the premises and exited the industrial estate completely.

The situation at Bintan Industrial Estate (BIE) is peaceful and business operations are proceeding as usual. The 150 security forces remain stationed in their positions within the industrial estate.

At 8.30 am (WIB) on Saturday, January 15, 2000, a crowd of about 1,000 demonstrators from neighbouring villages broke through the barrier gate at Bintan Industrial Estate (BIE).
