Sembcorp Energy India Limited: Providing Essential Power for Growth in India

With its rapid economic expansion, demand for energy in India is on the rise. Market experts have projected the country's energy consumption to see an increase of over 100% from the Fiscal year 2015 to the Fiscal year 2035.

Sembcorp entered the Indian energy market in 2010. Today, our India arm, Sembcorp Energy India Limited, is a leading independent power producer in the country, with around 4.37 gigawatts of thermal and renewable power capacity in operation and under development.

On the thermal front, we have two thermal power plants in Nellore District, Andhra Pradesh, with four 660-megawatt supercritical coal-fired units. The plants have a total installed capacity of 2.64 gigawatts and are designed for more sustainable power production. Supercritical technology allows them to operate at lower emission levels compared to subcritical power plants. In addition, the plants use sea water for their power generation operations, which eliminates the need to use precious ground water. Fuel for the plants is transported from the nearby Krishnapatnam port through closed-pipe conveyor belt systems, for safety, reliability and environmental compliance.

On the renewable front, we own and operate wind and solar power projects across seven states in India. These renewable power facilities have a combined capacity of more than 1,700 megawatts, and include 800 megawatts won in India’s national wind power tenders held in 2017 and February 2018. Our renewable power business enables us to contribute to the push for clean energy in India, where the government targets to grow renewable energy capacity to 175 gigawatts by the fiscal year 2022.

With this balanced diversified portfolio of high-quality assets, Sembcorp Energy India Limited is set to provide power to support India’s continued development and prosperity.
