Sembcorp Awards Sports Scholarships And Bursaries To Badminton Players

Sembcorp Industries (Sembcorp) today announced six badminton players – including five former and current national players – as the latest additions to its stable of sports scholarship and bursary recipients. Sembcorp will disburse a total of S$50,000 to six players from the Singapore Badminton Association (SBA) in recognition of their outstanding performance in the sport.
SBA-Sembcorp Trailblazer Wong Kok Siew Scholarship for Sports recipients Ronald Susilo, Kendrick Lee, Jiang Yanmei and Liu Fan Frances will be pursuing tertiary education on the scholarship. All four scholars have represented Singapore in badminton and Susilo and Jiang are currently also serving as part-time coaches at the SBA. In addition to the scholarships for the four players, two other players - Catherine Lim Zhi Yin and Eugene Sng – also received bursaries for further study funded by Sembcorp under the SBA-Sembcorp scheme.
Mr. Tang Kin Fei, Sembcorp Group President & CEO, said: “This year’s scholarship recipients have done Singapore proud with their sporting achievements and Sembcorp is very pleased to be able to provide a hand to support their educational pursuits. The scholarships will help pay for tuition fees, books and other course materials.”
The scholarship programme is funded by Sembcorp under its Group-wide charitable fund which supports causes in aid of children, education and stroke assistance. Since the scholarship’s inception in 2007, the scholarships have been awarded to athletes from the football and badminton fraternities.
