Sembcorp Signs Framework Agreements to Explore the Expansion of its Presence in Shenyang

September 02, 2010

Sembcorp is pleased to announce that its wholly-owned subsidiary Sembcorp Utilities has entered into two framework agreements today to explore the expansion of its presence in Shenyang.

The first of the framework agreements signed was with the Shenbei New District municipal government to explore the provision of water supply, wastewater treatment services, steam supply and district heating services to industrial and municipal customers in Shenbei district. The framework agreement was inked by Dr. Jeffrey Chen, CEO of Sembcorp’s China operations, and Mr Li Peng Yu, District Representative of Shenbei New District.

The second framework agreement was with Shenyang Water Group Co. (SWGC), to explore a possible joint venture to operate and manage SWGC’s water assets serving mainly municipal customers in Shenyang. The framework agreement was signed by Dr. Jeffrey Chen and Mr. Zhang Guoxiang, Chairman of Shenyang Water Group Co.

These two new collaborations are set to strengthen Sembcorp’s existing presence in Shenyang in Liaoning province, which currently includes three water works facilities, water intake systems and a water distribution network presence in the Shenyang Economic & Technological Development Zone, as well as water supply operations in Xinmin City through Sembcorp’s subsidiary Cascal.  In total, the Sembcorp Group’s water and wastewater treatment business operates in 12 sites across nine provinces in China.

The signings, which took place on the sidelines of the 5th Singapore-Liaoning Economic & Trade Council Meeting held from August 30 to September 2, 2010 in Liaoning, China, were witnessed by Mr. Gan Kim Yong, Singapore’s Minister for Manpower, Mr. Sam Tan, Parliamentary Secretary for Singapore’s Ministries of Trade & Industry and Information, Communications & the Arts, and Mr. Chen Zhenggao, Liaoning Governor.
