Sembcorp Makes a Donation to Support Education for the Clean Energy Industry

October 04, 2023

Sembcorp Energy UK, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sembcorp Industries (Sembcorp), has donated over £6,000 to Redcar and Cleveland College for the development of its new Green Engineering Education Room within the Clean Energy Education Hub. The Clean Energy Education Hub will focus on training for the clean and renewable energy industry. The Green Engineering Education Room will be used for engagement with schools, with a focus on green energy.

Andy Koss, CEO UK & Middle East at Sembcorp, said: “As an integral part of Redcar and Cleveland College’s Clean Energy Employers’ Forum, Sembcorp is committed to investing in the local community. Since the start of our partnership with the college, we have worked together to help ensure the next generation has the knowledge and training needed for the evolving energy industry. As we transition toward a greener global energy portfolio, it’s important to support the learning and development surrounding careers involving those technologies.”

Sembcorp is now collaborating on the design and development of a potential new Higher National Certificate (HNC) course in renewable and sustainable engineering to be delivered by the college.

Redcar and Cleveland College Executive Principal, Jason Faulkner, said: “At Redcar and Cleveland College, we are working hard to ensure we deliver the right training to meet current and future skill demands, and we couldn’t do this without the wealth of knowledge provided by our employer partners such as Sembcorp. We are immensely grateful to Sembcorp, an international industry leader, for the interest they have shown in developments at the college and working with us to share their knowledge, expertise and, as in this case, resources. Sembcorp’s input makes a real difference to the college, our learners’ knowledge and experience, and our communities through the growth of the future workforce.”

Redcar and Cleveland College’s Clean Energy Education Hub is a new £3.2 million training centre designed to give people the skills to meet the demands of Teesside’s growing renewable and low carbon sector. The college has worked in collaboration with Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council and industry leaders to help shape plans for the Clean Energy Education Hub and ensure the college is equipping people with the skills needed now and in the future.
