The National Grid Electricity System Operator (NG ESO) needs battery storage to dynamically manage the UK’s energy system in real-time, especially when electricity demand dramatically and unexpectedly increases or when renewable sources are limited.
Our batteries across five sites in England reduce the risk of power cuts by automatically increasing or decreasing their output to ensure that the system frequency remains safe, reliable and consistent.
Our current operational capacity is 120MWh, which we aim to increase by an additional 720MWh – with one of Europe’s largest batteries – to support the UK’s energy demand.
Overview of our 120MWh live battery fleet:
- Powering 360,000 UK homes for one hour
- One of the largest fleets in the UK
- Supplying 4% of the UK's entire installed capacity
