Exploration of low-carbon fuels – ammonia and hydrogen
Hydrogen and ammonia are expected to play an important role in the energy transition, supporting the decarbonisation of power generation and industrial processes while enabling the development of lower-carbon energy systems.
Leveraging our strong renewables platform and energy infrastructure capabilities, Sembcorp is advancing opportunities across the hydrogen and ammonia value chain, spanning production, transportation, infrastructure and end-use applications through strategic partnerships across Asia.
Key developments include:
- Forming a joint venture with Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) to accelerate green hydrogen and green ammonia development in India
- Securing a green hydrogen supply contract in India through the BPCL–Sembcorp joint venture to support refinery decarbonisation
- Advancing green hydrogen and green ammonia production opportunities in India, including the development of a large-scale green hydrogen facility in Odisha
- Partnering with V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority and Paradip Port Authority to develop an integrated ecosystem for the production and handling of green hydrogen, ammonia and related derivatives in India
- Establishing a cross-border green ammonia supply chain between India and Japan through collaborations with Sojitz Corporation, Kyushu Electric and NYK
- Developing a 600MW hydrogen-ready combined cycle power plant on Jurong Island, Singapore, designed to support the future use of hydrogen in power generation and facilitate a transition to lower-carbon fuels
As these markets continue to evolve, Sembcorp is well-positioned to support the development of regional hydrogen and ammonia ecosystems and contribute to a lower-carbon energy future.
