Sembcorp Energy UK Honoured at the 2023 NEPIC Industry Awards
March 26, 2023
Sembcorp Energy UK (Sembcorp) is honoured to have been recognised at the 2023 NEPIC Industry Awards for being outstanding in categories that highlight the company’s dedication to industry in the North East. Sembcorp’s headquarters, located at Wilton International on Teesside, have a storied history that continues to be driven by a workforce that is passionate about the energy industry and where innovation thrives that will enable the UK’s transition to Net Zero 2050.
Sembcorp was recognised as NEPIC’s 2023 Apprenticeship Employer of the Year. Apprenticeship programmes are one of the most important aspects within Sembcorp’s wider training programme, giving people on-the-job training and the chance to learn directly from their colleagues in the workplace. Fundamentally, Sembcorp believes that continuous learning and development ensures employees have the right skills and are suitably prepared to face the challenges that can rise in an ever-changing industry. Sembcorp’s “grow our own” philosophy underpins the fact that 42% of its current shift operations team are former apprentices, and many managers – up to a very senior level – started as apprentices at Sembcorp. A £2,000 prize associated with the award will be given to South Bank Primary School on the company’s behalf.
NEPIC’s 2023 Communities and Reputation Award was also presented to Sembcorp at the event. Sembcorp remains committed to helping the local community and has donated more than £37,000 to Zoe’s Place Baby Hospice in Normanby to fund the installation of solar panels on the building, helping to bolster the energy efficiency of its buildings. In 2022, the company also facilitated the £15,000 replacement works of inefficient filament and fluorescent lighting at Zoe’s Place with modern LED fittings throughout the 250-year-old former convent building. A £2,000 prize is to be awarded to the Holmwood School on the company’s behalf.
Graham Taylor, HR Business Partner, has won the Outstanding Contribution award. This recognises an individual at any level in industry who has had a sustained career, which has not only had a very significant contribution to the North East Process Sector, but also has been an inspiration to others. Graham has been contributing to the industry for many years and has spearheaded the growth and development Sembcorp Energy UK’s decorated apprenticeship and training programme. His passion for the industry, and in-depth knowledge of the company developed through years of dedicated service, continues to inspire and be an incredible resource to colleagues, customers, and industry peers. A £2,000 prize will be awarded to South Bank Primary School on behalf of Graham.
Emma Robinson, Structured Contracts Manager, has won the Young Achiever Award for the Support & Supply Chain category. This recognises and celebrates the region’s young talent and awards a £1,000 prize. Emma joined Sembcorp in 2013 as a Commercial Graduate and her desire to provide sustainable solutions and truly make a difference for Sembcorp, its customers, and the wider region is remarkable. She has quickly risen within the company and is a role model to her colleagues.
Harry Mason, Instrument Apprentice, won an Apprentice Award, where NEPIC recognises and celebrates the region’s brightest young apprentice talent from within the process sector and its supply chain, and awards a £1,000 prize. The motivation Harry brings with him every day, and his dedication to safety and continuous learning, highlights Harry as a rising star within Sembcorp Energy UK and the North East region.
