From Ambition to Action: How Local Partnerships Support Global Renewable Energy Goals

August 18, 2026

For global manufacturers, the race to decarbonise is on. But moving from commitment to tangible results requires navigating complex operational challenges. Infineon, a global semiconductor leader, recently achieved a major milestone, transitioning all its global production sites to 100% renewable electricity.

In Singapore, Infineon entered into a 15-year renewable energy partnership with Sembcorp, supporting the company's ongoing renewable energy ambitions. This includes a 893kWp rooftop solar system installed at Infineon's Singapore site, delivering clean electricity directly to its operations. The collaboration highlights how localised energy solutions can contribute meaningfully to broader corporate decarbonisation goals.

"Working with an experienced local energy partner such as Sembcorp accelerates delivery: they bring technical know‑how, local regulatory experience, financing options and operational support, which are qualities that are especially valuable when you must match renewable supplies to today’s constantly increasing energy demand."

- CS Chua, President and Managing Director of Infineon Technologies Asia Pacific

The Challenge: Powering Energy-Intensive Manufacturing

Semiconductor manufacturing is one of the most energy-intensive industries. Infineon’s primary challenges were:
•    Integrating renewables into systems that demand stable, 24/7 power for highly sensitive cleanroom environments
•    Securing a sufficient volume of renewable energy on competitive commercial terms
•    Blending new energy sources seamlessly with complex, established operational systems

A Blueprint for Success: Key Learnings for Manufacturers

Infineon’s journey highlights a clear model for other large-scale organisations pursuing the energy transition.

Leadership & Culture

Strong, top-down commitment set the tone. Infineon established firm targets and created cross-functional teams to ensure alignment across procurement, engineering, and operations, fostering a culture of ownership for energy performance across the business.

Strategic Partnership

Working with an experienced local partner was critical to turning commitment into delivery. By working with a local partner such as Sembcorp, considerations such as technical expertise, regulatory familiarity, financing options, and operational support help match renewable supply with continuously growing energy demand.

Technology & Operations

The transition was supported by investment in modern energy management systems and robust monitoring, alongside a mixed-measures approach that combined power purchase agreements (PPAs), on-site generation, and certified renewable energy purchases.

As industries advance towards a lower-carbon future, Infineon's experience highlights the role that long-term, localised partnerships can play in enabling ambitious sustainability goals. Sembcorp remains committed to supporting customers on this journey with tailored energy solutions that deliver both reliability and progress.
