Energy alternatives for a cleaner future

Despite Singapore’s limited renewable energy resources, we address this challenge by harnessing abundant low-carbon electricity from regional power grids. This not only fosters the development of renewable energy in the region but also supports the realisation of the ASEAN Power Grid – a regional power grid system constructed through cross-border interconnections.

Singapore targets to import up to 6GW of low-carbon electricity by 2035. With electricity imports expected to fulfil a third of our nation's energy needs in the next decade, we are actively supporting this transition to ensure a secure and sustainable energy supply.

In October 2023, we received conditional approval to import 1.2GW of low-carbon electricity from Vietnam to Singapore in collaboration with Petrovietnam Technical Services Corporation (PTSC), a member of Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (Petrovietnam).

Renewable Imports

We have also commenced the import of 50MW of renewable energy from Peninsular Malaysia following a signed agreement with Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), Malaysia’s integrated electricity utility, on 10 December 2024. This inaugural cross-border partnership aligns with both Singapore’s and Malaysia’s energy-transition goals.

In October 2025, we received Conditional Approval from the Energy Market Authority (EMA), together with our consortium partner Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB), to import an estimated 1GW of renewable energy from Sarawak to Singapore. This milestone project supports Singapore's decarbonisation goals, strengthens regional energy connectivity, and advances the ASEAN Power Grid vision.

These strategic imports will enhance access to green energy for our customers, help meet rising electricity demand, strengthen energy resilience, and propel us towards a more sustainable energy future.
