Supporting RTX’s Solar Upgrades: From Installation to Managing Retired Assets
June 15, 2026
In today’s fast-evolving renewable energy landscape, early adopters of solar technology are increasingly upgrading their systems to achieve optimal performance and advance their sustainability journeys.
For global aerospace company RTX Corporation in Singapore, this meant replacing its existing solar panels. Delivered by Sembcorp Solar, the deployment leverages next-generation solar panel technology to significantly enhance system performance, increasing overall installed capacity by approximately 80%.

"At RTX, we believe in innovation that respects our planet. Partnering with Sembcorp, we are not just upgrading our solar capacity; we are paving the way towards a sustainable future for the aerospace industry."
- Mr. Christopher T. Calio, Chairman and CEO of RTX
The deployment delivered approximately 13.3MWp of installed solar capacity across 11 sites, supporting higher levels of renewable energy generation and improved efficiency. With progressive commissioning targeted from 4Q 2026, the expanded solar deployment is expected to avoid over 6,700 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually, strengthening energy resilience across RTX’s Singapore operations.
While the replacement process was technically straightforward, this upgrade presented an important consideration: how should we manage retired solar assets responsibly?
Responsible Management of End-of-Life Solar Panels
As part of Sembcorp’s commitment to delivering comprehensive energy solutions, we enabled RTX to seamlessly transition to a higher-capacity solar setup while independently taking the initiative to address end-of-life pathways for the replaced panels.
Rather than defaulting to disposal, Sembcorp facilitated the handling of RTX's retired solar panels through National Environment Agency (NEA)-licensed recyclers in Singapore, such as KGS.
From Adoption to Resource Management
As solar adoption continues to grow, Singapore is entering its next sustainability stage: learning to ensure responsible end-of-life handling of renewable infrastructure. While solar panel recycling is still in its nascent stages, small and deliberate efforts are crucial to building long-term, sustainable practices. This pilot initiative reflects Sembcorp’s proactive approach to asset management and our commitment to finding practical, responsible solutions wherever feasible, supporting our partners in transitioning to newer, cleaner technologies with confidence.
