Sembcorp Receives Conditional Approval for Renewable Power Import Project From Peninsular Malaysia to Singapore

Singapore, August 7, 2026 – Sembcorp Utilities Pte Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sembcorp Industries (Sembcorp), has received Conditional Approval from the Energy Market Authority of Singapore (EMA) for a 300MW renewable power import project (the Project) from Peninsular Malaysia to Singapore.
The Project will be supported by a large-scale development (the Development) at Linggiu Reservoir in Johor, Malaysia, comprising an approximate 2.2GWp floating solar photovoltaic system and up to 4.3GWh of battery energy storage. The Development will be undertaken by Sembcorp in partnership with state-owned entity KPRJ Environment Sdn. Bhd. (a wholly-owned subsidiary of Kumpulan Prasarana Rakyat Johor Sdn. Bhd.) and Qua Energy, with operations expected to commence in 2029.
Designed to meet energy demand in both Singapore and Malaysia, the Project will leverage the existing and future subsea interconnection infrastructure between both countries to facilitate cross-border power flows and strengthen regional energy connectivity.

Sembcorp and its partners will continue to work closely with relevant authorities and stakeholders in both Singapore and Malaysia to progress the Project, including advancing development studies and securing necessary regulatory approvals.
