Sembcorp’s New 600MW Power Plant Strengthens Energy Security and Powers AI
October 28, 2026
Singapore, October 28, 2026 – Sembcorp Industries (Sembcorp) today announced that its 600MW hydrogen-ready combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power plant on Jurong Island, Singapore, has commenced commercial operations, following the completion of market registration requirements and attainment of its full Generation Registered Facility (GRF) status from Singapore's Energy Market Company.
This expands Sembcorp’s capacity to provide reliable power for the nation’s growing economy and digital infrastructure, while the facility’s design provides flexibility to include low-carbon fuels over time. With a total gas-fired and renewables portfolio of 5.7GW in Singapore, Sembcorp has established a strong generation footprint in the country. Its assets support the growing power requirements of Singapore’s data centre and semiconductor sectors. Complementing this are more than 2GW of regional renewable energy import opportunities, broadening the company’s energy portfolio and supporting a more diverse energy mix for Singapore.
Koh Chiap Khiong, President & CEO, Gas and Related Services and CEO of Singapore, Sembcorp, said, “This new capacity strengthens our ability to power Singapore’s AI-driven growth and enhance the nation’s energy resilience. The safe and on-time delivery reflects the strong partnership across the project teams and our disciplined commitment to execution. Fully contracted under long-term arrangements, the plant will deliver reliable power while supporting Singapore’s longer-term energy transition.
Daisuke Muraoka, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, JEL, said, “Delivering the project within an existing operating complex required close coordination. The strong collaboration between Sembcorp, JEL and Mitsubishi Power enabled us to work through these complexities while maintaining safety and quality. We are proud to have played our part in delivering this important energy asset for Singapore.”
Akihiro Ondo, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mitsubishi Power Asia Pacific, said, “The successful completion of this project reflects the complementary expertise of Sembcorp, JEL and Mitsubishi Power. We are pleased that our gas turbine technology will contribute to efficient and reliable power generation in Singapore and look forward to supporting the plant’s long-term performance.”
Puah Kok Keong, Chief Executive, Energy Market Authority, said, “The additional generation capacity from Sembcorp’s new hydrogen-ready CCGT power plant contributes to strengthening the reliability and security of Singapore’s power supply. It illustrates how we are partnering the industry in expanding our power infrastructure to meet growing electricity demand, while decarbonising the sector. We will continue to work with the industry to uphold a reliable and resilient power system.”
